President's Report

 Ovidiu Muresan

Happy New Year and wish you a healthy and prosperous year in 2020.

Hope to see you this week Tuesday January 21, 2020 at our monthly meeting.

We are starting a new program to increase our meeting attendance. If you bring a new engineer (a coworker) member or non-member you will be awarded with a door prize. Let us know at registration who are you bringing and I’ll give you a door prize during the meeting.

As a recap, in addition to the monthly meetings, get ready for March 9th, 2020 Product Show and late spring 2020 our Golf outing. Regarding the Product Show, I’m on the last coordination issues with the booth layout, company, and the hotel. The moment I have that finished I’ll set up the registration online.

The Board is continuing the program to help young professional to join the ASPE. If you’re a young professional plumbing engineer and you want to join ASPE, please let me know we may be able to help.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions at [email protected].

Please, email me directly with any questions and/or suggestions and I’ll try to answer them. If some of the topics become hot items we’ll have an open forum, and discuss them at our monthly meetings.

VP Technical Report

 Dennis M Connelly

Greetings to ASPE members, friends and plumbing folk everywhere!

Happy New Year! I truly hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season and will have a healthy, safe and prosperous new year. I hope you also enjoyed our first week of spring weather in the middle of January, but don’t get too comfortable because it’s sure to be February before you know it. Of course, this new year is also the start of a new decade so this should be the start of many changes.

This year will be interesting as we watch the amazing events that are swirling around us. From the insane happenings in our national government, tensions in global politics, the disasters of earthquake, volcano, wildfire, and heartbreaking calamities we see whenever we look at news, it’s somehow easier to keep our gaze closer to home. But that still gives us plenty for us to focus on nearby.

In our immediate focus is our first meeting of the year for Atlanta Chapter ASPE. If you haven’t joined us yet at our new home, DoubleTree by Hilton-Atlanta Perimeter at Chamblee-Dunwoody, then you are missing out. The facility is comfortable, and the food is very good; plus, there is good fellowship and opportunity to network with peers and associates. This month we have an excellent program for you to enjoy and help yourself at work.

We will welcome Vernon Taliaferro, my colleague at Newcomb & Boyd. Vernon is a mid-lifer who has evolved from drafting board to Revit in his “short” 17 years and has worked on both sides of the table as both designer and contractor. This varied background gives him a unique knowledge base and this month he will share REVIT Tips and Tricks. He is a Power User at our office. Please join us; we’ll save you a seat.

We really want our engineers and designers to join us as we move into this new decade. Our younger members will be the future leaders of our society, so mixing up with the older experienced group will help you move forward in your careers. We have a couple of opportunities coming up in Atlanta with ASPE’s Engineering Out Legionella, presented by Christoph Lohr, as well as the ASPE CPD Review Class, both coming in February. Then in April is the CPD Exam. This certification has been a great help to my career and is widely recognized for highlighting the best talent in the industry.

Becoming active locally is another way to grow in stature within the organization. Chapter officers are the delegates to the Society convention, which will be this year in New Orleans, LA. Conventions are always exciting, and NOLA is an exciting place for one. Think about where you can serve and grow when the nominating committee calls on you.

Before that though is our Product Show on March 9th. This will be at the DoubleTree and will have technical programs for CEUs, food, door prizes and a chance to see the latest from our industry. Mark your calendars and plan to be there.

With all that going on, I hope everyone is still very busy at home and at work, and I wish all those who are starting in new places for 2020 the best of luck and success.

I’m out of space for now but I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and around town.

Affiliate Liaison's Report

It is hard to believe that January is almost finished and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. We should have an interesting dinner meeting this month discussing Revit Tips and Tricks.

After the dinner portion Sean Barr and I request that the affiliates spend a few minutes with us out in the lobby just to give a bit of feedback regarding what you want to get from ASPE. We took the surveys that were filled out earlier in the year to heart but want to expand on that a bit.

We are finishing up the product show announcements and the registration portal should be up in a few days. If interested in providing a door prize for the show feel free to let me or a member of the board know.

As a reminder each dinner we have the ability for up to two table tops available for affiliates. If interested feel free to let me know.

For those of you who are thinking about taking the CPD exam this coming year, we have an unique opportunity in 2020. Atlanta will be hosting the ASPE CPD review session and practice test this coming Feburary. This is a great opportunity to take part without having the cost of travel and lodging. More information to follow as the date approaches.

If you are planning on taking the CPD in 2020, please let me know! We have a wealth of knowledge within the chapter and many people willing to help.
