President's Report

 Ovidiu Muresan

Dear Friends,

I want to thank all of you for the success of the Product Show. I do hope none of you got this nasty virus as we had one confirmed infection in the attendance.

We are traveling uncertain times and none of us can really predict what will be happening next. In the meantime I wish you all to stay healthy and safe.

Our March meeting is canceled and I can’t predict anything at this time when will be our next one. We will continue issuing our monthly newsletter and if you have anything to communicate to our community let me know to see how we can send the message out.

Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions at [email protected].

Thank you and God bless you all.

VP Technical Report

 Dennis M Connelly

Greetings to ASPE members, friends and plumbing folk everywhere!

Friends, it’s March already! A quarter of the way through the year! Time is flying, and yet it is crawling as each of us changes our lives and distance ourselves in this time of Covid-19. It has seriously affected us all and will continue to for some time to come. There are many questions that we have now and more that we will have in the future. They cannot be answered immediately; that doesn’t mean they should not be asked and discussed, but the answer may depend on the overall condition.

Aside from our pandemic, life goes on! Springtime is here, the pollen is flying, and my seasonal allergy is making me crazy. The good news is I am dosing on Claritin and covering my sneezes. This too shall pass. We did have our Product Show early this month (more on that later). It was good to see the displays and great information that our affiliates and product reps provided. I personally, and the Chapter Board collectively, thank them all for their support of ASPE and our chapter through their contributions and participation.

Now for the “more” that I promised. To my fellow designers and engineers: our product show this year was a rather sparsely attended event. I know that we are all busy, that traveling outside of your normal path requires more time, that you can get much information that you need from the internet. That’s not the point! The point of the product show is to raise funds for the chapter to operate, to send delegates to convention, to allow us to operate as a society for our collective benefit. This society is a partnership between engineers, designers and affiliates and manufacturers. The affiliates fulfilled their part by buying booths and transporting product and informational materials and committing many manhours to staff the show. Our low attendance was notable and did not well represent our side of the bargain. Please keep in mind when prioritizing your life, that this is an annual event, that your participation contributes to both our greater success, expands your network and allows us to continue to advocate for our profession in our marketplace.

Sorry for the soapbox speech, but I had to vent for a bit, now back to business!

Time is running out for renewing CPD credentials with Society.  It is important that you not let this certification lapse! PLEASE NOTE: this is no longer and paper process! EVERYTHING is on-line now. If something is missing, they are the first place to check, but let us know if we missed something and we will do our best to support you.

At this moment, we believe the CPD Exam will still be conducted as planned, March 30 – April 5, 2020. Actual test date will depend on your assigned test center. If there are changes to this that are announced, they should be sent from Society to all registered for the exam.

Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, ASPE has recommended that all chapters suspend meetings through the end of April, and we are following this advice. This is still a very fluid situation, so that suspension could be extended again. This situation will alter our public lives for some time to come, but we are still committed to ASPE, our members and our society, both professional and national. We will continue to be in touch with you and invite your responses and conversations as we work through limitations until we can meet again as we are accustomed.

I’m out of space for now but I look forward to seeing you again in a future date. Please stay in contact with us all, through the Atlanta Chapter website, Facebook, or individual emails. You can reach me at [email protected].

Please be safe; cover your cough or sneeze and wash your hands!

Best wishes to you all!

I hope everyone is keeping healthy and practicing social distancing. I know many of us are working from home now and dealing with all the difficulties that comes with. Hopefully, all the measures and sacrifices will be worth it and we will move past this weird time in history.

With everything happening don't forget that renewals for the CPD certification are coming up. This process has moved completely online this year. You should have gotten multiple emails from Society at this point about it.

As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
