President's Report

 Julie Hadfield

Hello All,

Our November meeting will be on November 17th via Zoom. You should have already received an invite with the link to register for the meeting. The meeting is hosted by ASPE Education (on aspe.org). You must register through them to attend the meeting. Click on the link in the invite, register for the Atlanta Chapter Meeting, and log in to your account to complete the process. You will get a confirmation email and an email closer to the meeting with a link to the presentation. You can also access the presentation by going directly to the Education section of ASPE.org. The website closes registration before the event, so be sure to register at least a day beforehand. Once it is closed, we don’t have the ability to add you in. We have gotten a couple questions about the registration process. We will be sending out a more complete step-by-step guide to help. In the meantime, if you have any questions or problems, reach out to a member of the board.

The board has been reviewing the scholarship applications that we got this year. We will be awarding the scholarship by the end of the year. Stay tuned for more information.

I want to point out two member benefits that you may not be on your radar. ASPE education has many opportunities to get CEUs and continue to learn new skills while being socially distant. First, there are many on demand webinars to choose whatever strikes your fancy. The second is the Read, Learn, Earn program. CEUs are awarded after reading an article and completing the quiz.

ASPE also offered the Book of the Month benefit for members. Each month there is a discount on a different book from the ASPE bookstore. For November, it is 35% off of Pharmaceutical
Facilities Pluming Systems.

Lastly, the 2020 ASPE Digital Experience will be held on December 1-3. This is an opportunity for interactive education, dynamic exhibitor showcase, and unique connection opportunities due to the Convention being cancelled this year. The education sessions are free to all ASPE members.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

November 2020

Greetings to Friends, Families and Associates of ASPE Atlanta!

Its almost over! The year 2020, that is! We have arrived at November bruised and battered, but mostly intact. It has been a rough year for our nation with this awful virus that we cannot seem to get in front of. We find our numbers surging again as we head into the holiday season. I pray that you can all stay safe through this dark winter. We are almost through with this election too. Except, of course, we get to go vote once more for our Senate representatives. As wild and sometimes painful as this election season has been, I hope everyone participated in this important duty, and will do so again for the January election. Win or lose, it is important we uphold the democratic process, and when the counting is done, we get behind the winner to continue building our great nation and society.

While much of our nation continues to struggle with Covid and loss of lives and livelihood, much of our industry continues to move forward with building and renovating buildings and facilities. My company is still very busy in design with many projects in construction, and therefore plenty of contract administration. As we look ahead to Thanksgiving, I ask everyone to recall how blessed we are if we still are working and to recall all those who have lost jobs and homes and lives because of this blight. Please keep your prayers focused on how we can pull together to defeat this terrible scourge, and how you may help those who have been the worst affected.

On a brighter note, we are preparing for our November Atlanta Chapter meeting. Our virtual technical presentation will be Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 7:00 PM EST. Please be sure to register early so you don’t get caught short on meeting day. I think we have an interesting topic for this month, Monitoring and Control of Building Plumbing Systems. Our guest, Adam Bartman with Reed Water will present their system for keeping up with the flow and drips of plumbing systems for commercial buildings that don’t have a large Building Automation System like your hospital or other institutional buildings. Adam was a Master Plumber and operated a mechanical contracting company before he was a controls entrepreneur. He and his partner Avi Moscovich have pioneered a system using cloud-enabled hardware devices connected to valves, meters and sensors and combined with I-o-T to monitor and manage commercial plumbing systems.  Please plan to attend so you can learn of new ways to serve your clients with better plumbing systems.

In closing, I want to remind us all that we are all better when we reach out and communicate. One of the best communications tools you have is the Atlanta ASPE website and the Newsletter. Not only do you get scintillating articles (like this one), but you can find the contacts for products and people that make your work better. You support your society as well, even if we do not get to see each other’s smiling faces. Be sure to check us out.

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Whether you are staying in or going out, please be safe. Wear your mask, wash your hands, cover your sneeze, and keep your distance wherever possible. I really do want to see everyone again in the future.

That is all the news I have today. You can always reach me at [email protected] to talk about ASPE, plumbing, or whatever is on your mind. Drop me a note!

I hope that everyone has been having a good November and that your Thanksgiving will be wonderful. The scholarship deadline has passed and the board is expecting to announce the winner shortly.I would just like to say we had some really good applicants this year and would like to thank all the members who support the scholarship through the raffles we hold.

We are also doing another online technical session this month and will continue to do so until at least the first of the year.

All,

I hope everyone is having a good November. With the Caronavirus still affecting social gatherings we are in a holding pattern in regards to membership drives and events. Hopefully by the end of the session we will be able to get back to in person meetings and social functions. We had some members drop off the role but picked up some new members this month so we had a net decrease of 1.

Membership information is below.

Current Chapter Membership (as of November 1, 2020): 170 Members

# of AYP (ASPE Young Professional): 26

#of WOA (Women of ASPE): 4

Thank You and be safe,
