President's Report

 Julie Hadfield

Hello All,

I want to start off by congratulating our 3 newest CPDs. John LaPratt, Cody Morris, and Joshua Wagner passed the CPD exam this past offering. Congratulations all of you!

Our December meeting will be on December 14th via Zoom. You should have already received an invite with the link to register for the meeting. The meeting is hosted by ASPE Education (on You must register through them to attend the meeting. Click on the link in the invite, register for the Atlanta Chapter Meeting, and log in to your account to complete the process. You will get a confirmation email and an email closer to the meeting with a link to the presentation. You can also access the presentation by going directly to the Education section of The website closes registration before the event, so be sure to register at least a day beforehand. Once it is closed, we don’t have the ability to add you in. If you have any questions or problems, reach out to a member of the board.

We will be awarding the scholarship to a well deserving applicant at this month’ meeting. Join us to see who won!

I want to point out two member benefits that you may not be on your radar. ASPE education has many opportunities to get CEUs and continue to learn new skills while being socially distant. First, there are many on demand webinars to choose whatever strikes your fancy. The second is the Read, Learn, Earn program. CEUs are awarded after reading an article and completing the quiz.

ASPE also offered the Book of the Month benefit for members. Each month there is a discount on a different book from the ASPE bookstore. For December, it is 35% off the digital version of the CPD Review Manual. Registration for the Certified Plumbing Design exam is now open for next April. Registration deadline is April 8. APSE offers review classes for the exam and our chapter has offered classes in the past. If you are planning on taking the exam and interested in review, let us know!

I hope all of you have the chance to attend some of the sessions for the 2020 ASPE Digital Experience earlier this month. The sessions are still available to view unit January 31 if you missed any of the sessions.

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

December 2020

Greetings to Friends, Families and Associates of ASPE Atlanta!

December is finally here! I have really been looking forward to this month, this year more than most! Of course, it is a time to gather to celebrate the year together with family and friends. Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza are all holidays that mean special times to us all. This year, the gathering will be difficult and probably much less than usual because of the terrible virus that is continuing to ravage our nation. This Covid is the other reason I have been looking to December, to the end of 2020, and hopefully to brighter days ahead.

December is a time of reflection as well. Looking back at the year and our accomplishments. Though it has been difficult, we have continued to meet deadlines and fulfill our obligations. We should take pride in how we have been able to adapt to the new, remote everything mode. It shows our resilience and determination in the face of challenges. But for all we have achieved, we know that our nation has paid a terrible price in lives, homes, businesses, and friends due to this terrible killer among us. We are hopeful for the prospect of an effective vaccine just around the corner, but we must brace ourselves for the horrible peak just ahead of us, just when we should be celebrating. My friends, please, Please, PLEASE take the warnings to heart! Wear your masks! Keep distance from those who are not your housemates! Do the simple things to ward of this virus until we can get our inoculation against this fearsome disease. With hope and perseverance, we look forward to when we can see each other again, face to face, hopefully by summer 2021.

That is enough introspection about this season. Moving on, many of us are still very busy. I have occasionally ventured out to various project sites, and I see there is still much construction happening everywhere. I am still very busy, with many projects coming out of the ground. I hope that all my peers are also enjoying this business success and wish it continues for us all into the new year.

We are preparing for our December ASPE Atlanta Chapter meeting. Our virtual technical presentation will be Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 7:00 PM EST. Please be sure to register early so you don’t get caught short on meeting day.  This month we will be welcoming Jennifer Marken as our presenter. Jennifer is with Elkay Manufacturing, an American-owned and operated company with over 100 years of experience delivering the best in plumbing fixtures and equipment. She has been with Elkay for over 24 years, wearing many hats from production, technical support, and sales support. Her presentation, The Art of Water, will focus on Elkay’s efforts in sustainability through their drinking systems and bottle-filling systems. These fixtures conserve valuable resources while minimizing the use of disposable plastic bottle waste in or environment. This should be an interesting and enjoyable program. I hope to “see” you there!

We will be awarding our ASPE Scholarship at this meeting, so please join us as we congratulate our winning student.

In closing, I want to remind us all that we are all better when we reach out and communicate. One of the best communications tools you have is the Atlanta ASPE website and the Newsletter. Not only do you get scintillating articles (like this one), but you can find the contacts for products and people that make your work better. You support your society as well, even if we do not get to see each other’s smiling faces. Be sure to check us out.

I want to wish everyone a safe and Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanza, and a Happy New Year to all! Whether you are staying in or going out, please be safe. Wear your mask, wash your hands, cover your sneeze, and keep your distance wherever possible. I really do want to see everyone again in the future.

That is all the news I have today. You can always reach me at [email protected] to talk about ASPE, plumbing, or whatever is on your mind. Drop me a note!

VP Education Report

 Reza Bahador

Happy December everyone. I hope we are all ready for the holidays and enjoying some winter weather.

We had some great applicants this year for the ASPE Atlanta Chapter Student Scholarship. After careful review of each application, redacted for anonymity, and a vote by the Board we have decided on the recipient. Tate Allen of Dawsonville, Ga. He is a currently a senior at Dawson County Highschool, has a impressive 4.375 GPA and will be attending Augusta University in the Fall to study Cellular and Molecular Biology.

Congratulations Tate, we look forward to formally meeting you during our December meeting!

Affiliate Liason Report

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and your Christmas/Winter Holiday is a good one. With 2020 being what it has been it is kind of hard to believe it is almost over. Hopefully 2021 will be closer to normal.

With the current Covid-19 case levels I imagine it will be another couple of months before we are able to do in person meetings again. This is going to make it difficult to have a product show, but we are still holding out hope. I think that a golf outing will be doable, but we are still trying to iron out all the details. Hopefully more info will be coming soon.

I would like to say congrats to our 2020-2021 Scholarship winner Tate Allen of Dawsonville, GA.

I would also like to extend a big thanks to all the members that donate to allow us to help deserving young students by giving the scholarship out.

I hope everyone has a safe holiday season, Happy New Year, and a wonderful 2021. As always if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
