President's Report
Julie Hadfield
Hello everyone,
We are moving the Product Show for this year to May 12 at Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee. Information for registration and technical session coming soon.
This month’s meeting will March 24 and also be at Distillery of Modern Art (2197 Irvindale Dr, Chamblee, GA 30341). To help encourage registering online, we are adding a $5 fee for paying at the door. Registering beforehand helps us plan for the meeting, but if you are unsure if you are going to make it, you are always welcome to come without registering.
We do not want the cost of attending a meeting be the reason you cannot attend. If you need help covering the cost of attending, please reach out to a board member. We will get you a sponsor. There is absolutely no shame or judgement, and it will be handled with discretion. Only the person sponsoring you will be made aware.
We are still running a contest this session to raffle away a trip to serve as a Delegate for the Atlanta Chapter at the 2026 Convention in Oklahoma City. We will be allotting points for coming to meetings and events throughout the session. At the May meeting we will be handing out raffle tickets in relation to the number of points. We will also be giving out prices at different point levels. We will have more information at the meeting and ask any board member if you have any questions about it.
If you are interested in being on the board next year, please reach out to me.
As always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Happy March Atlanta ASPE Members!
I hope you are having a nice March since we welcomed Springtime this month and we won one hour of daylight.
Temperatures are getting warm in Atlanta, and pollen season is here with all its splendor.
Traffic in Atlanta is always crazy, always busy specially on weekends.
Atlanta Airport is busier than normal for March due to irregularities withing TSA.
March of Madness, aka NCAA Tournament, keeps us all excited even for the ones that know nothing about basketball.
Atlanta ASPE monthly dinner will happen Tuesday March 24th, 2026, at 6 pm. The Technical presentation for that night will be: “Water Hammer Control: An explanation and solution to hydraulic shock”, will be presented by Kevin Swisher from CSA of Georgia.
The venue for the meeting is:
Distillery of Modern Art, 2197 Irvindale Way Chamblee GA 30341.
We hope to see you there.
If you have ideas to share or have something to contribute to the growth and development of the chapter, please reach out to any of us on the board. Happy Spring to all! Itchy eyes, runny noses and a spike in antihistamine usage are all here again. We are still rolling in and out of chilly nights, but they are getting to be fewer and farther in between.
March is my favorite newsletter to repost. I have updated the relevant Society information in the section that starts with “Now down to business…”. But first, please take a moment to and join me for a stroll through history.
The vernal equinox marks the first day of Spring and the first day of the Persian New Year celebration called, Nowruz (New Day) – Eideh Shoma Mobarak (Happy New Year)!
As Iran is my father’s homeland I would like to share a bit of our culture:
Nowruz is a secular holiday based on the Solar Calendar that has been celebrated throughout Central Asia and Western Asia by a large and diverse group of people for over 3,000 years. With modern transportation and migration it is now celebrated worldwide and usually falls on March 20th or 21st; but the true criteria for the first day of the new year is the day when the sun enters the Tropic of Aries (0 ° latitude) before noon – a time when the sun is over the equator and night and day are equal in length.
The celebration includes such things as a spring cleaning of your home, buying new clothes, preparing a table (Haft-sin) with 7 items that start with the letter “S” in Farsi representing “growth, strength, love, the sunrise, patience, beauty and health”, visiting with friends and family, a day spent in nature (often accompanied with games and a picnic).
In recent years, this holiday has become politicized, taking away from the nature of the holiday.
If you feel like learning more, here is an excellent paper on Nowruz on Harvard University’s website: Celebrating Nowruz
Now down to business… We have 5 days until the CPD exam registration closes on April 1th, 2026. The exam will be held via remote proctor from April 13th-24th. Click here for details about the exam and its prerequisites. Though the prep classes have passed there is still time to brush up on your skills with the ASPE CPD Study Guide. This book is a to-the-point collection of topics and formulae that you will see on the exams and it includes a practice exam. If you only buy one book for review, this is it. I keep this book handy as a resource on my desk to this day as it has so much great information in one place. Buy it here. CPD Study Guide
As always, for those of you who are interested in expanding your knowledge of a particular subject or just need to brush up on some skills, take a moment and visit the Society’s Education Opportunities page.
If you haven’t already, check out the ASPE Tables App available at the ASPE Bookstore.
We are constantly doing our best to make sure that our members have easy access to all the tools available to them. Please let us know of any suggestions that you may have to make your experience better and keep an eye out as we revise and update information on our ASPE Atlanta Chapter’s site.
Thank you,

Hello ASPE members. The March 24th meeting, as many of you already know, is being held at The Distillery of Modern Art, located at 2197 Irvindale Way in Chamblee, GA 30341. This is where the ASPE Atlanta Chapter Product Show will be also be held on May 12th, so mark your calendars. It’s a good opportunity, especially for the affiliate members, to see the space. Speaking of affiliate members, Pulley & Associates, Harry Warren, Pointer Agency, United Sales and Evans & Associates have agreed to help us reach out to the plumbing engineer community to increase attendance at this year's Product Show, where manufauters will be displaying the newest products and latest innovations from our industry.
A number of sponsorship opportunities are available for Afflilaites at the Product Show and the upcoming Clay Shoot on April 24th so please make sure to reach out to Rodger Nodine to show your support for the Atlanta ASPE Chapter.

Hello again sports fans. Welcome to our own version of March Madness! I hope everyone is healthy, happy, and busy.
Welcome also to springtime in Atlanta, where we have survived our FIRST FALSE SPRING, and hopefully the LAST RE-WINTER, and are now moving on to our favorite Green Pollen Season! Break out the Zyrtec! (I am already into it!)
Of course, we have now finished the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, which was dramatic and exciting for Team USA as well as the world. That brings us to Bracket-Mania again with another favorite sports diversion. Don’t let the boss catch you watching!
Before I get too far off track, I want to give a shout out to your ASPE Board, who have led us through an eventful February. Not only a chapter technical meeting, but Galentine’s event with WOA (Thank you, Zaria) and Engineers Week recognition for some hockey fun (Thanks again Rodger, Julie, and the Board).
Our Product Show, which was originally planned for March, has been pushed back to May, due to technical issues and site availability. Joe Welsh and Aaron Siegel are leading the effort, along with the Board, for a successful and informative show. Stay tuned for more updates as the date approaches.
That is a brief update on activities just to keep you informed. There is much more that happens around the ASPE Chapter and Society. If you are a member, and you are not participating in any of these, you are short-changing yourself. There is not only education, but friendships and career networking that can help you grow, as a person and as an engineer. Please come and join us in person; I think you will be pleased by that decision.
I cannot leave without my regular PSA about participation in life in America and the protection of our democracy. Call, write, visit your Representatives and Senators, and make your voice be heard.
That is all the space I can consume this month. A lot going on, so be on board and we will have a good time and learn something valuable along the way. If you ever have any questions or want to talk about anything, drop me a line at [email protected] or any of your board members at “office position”@aspe-atl.com
Thanks.
