President's Report
Julie Hadfield
Hello everyone,
This month’s meeting will be April 28. We will be back at Mutation for the meeting in April and May. We are talking with the Distillery of Modern Art about moving meetings there next session. To help encourage registering online, we are adding a $5 fee for paying at the door. Registering beforehand helps us plan for the meeting, but if you are unsure if you are going to make it, you are always welcome to come without registering.
We do not want the cost of attending a meeting be the reason you cannot attend. If you need help covering the cost of attending, please reach out to a board member. We will get you a sponsor. There is absolutely no shame or judgement, and it will be handled with discretion. Only the person sponsoring you will be made aware.
The Product Show will be May 12 at Distillery of Modern Art in Chamblee. We will be having 3 technical sessions running during the show. CEUs will be available for those sessions. If anyone is interested in presenting for one of those sessions, please reach out. We also have a couple booth spaces open. Registration for booths is open on the website. Registration for attendees will be out soon.
We are still running a contest this session to raffle away a trip to serve as a Delegate for the Atlanta Chapter at the 2026 Convention in Oklahoma City. We will be allotting points for coming to meetings and events throughout the session. At the May meeting we will be handing out raffle tickets in relation to the number of points. We will also be giving out prices at different point levels. We will have more information at the meeting and ask any board member if you have any questions about it.
We will be having elections for board positions in May. Candidates will be sent out this week. If you are interested in being on the board next year, please reach out to me.
As always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Presentation Title: Thermal Expansion & Design Considerations for Domestic Water Heating and Hydronic Heating & Cooling Applications
Presented By: Brent Taylor, Amtrol
Tanks have been used to control thermal expansion since the introduction of hydronic boilers in the early-1900s. With municipal cross-contamination programs becoming prevalent starting in the 1960s and ultimately leading to required backflow prevention devices being standard in many commercial applications through the 1980s, the need for thermal expansion controls became a critical component for domestic hot water systems…leading to the invention of the domestic thermal expansion tank in 1991. Although thermal expansion tanks are required for nearly all commercial projects that include domestic water heating, there continue to be substantial gaps in both design and installation that ultimately lead to operation and safety
When: 04/28/26 6:00-8:30P.M
Where: Mutation Brewing in the Speakeasy Room located at 5825 Roswell Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

VP Legislative Report
FRANK VASTAKIS
Hello, ASPE members and friends! We’re already halfway through the month of April and before you know it, May will be here.
As for my Legislative update, not much happening here locally that directly affects our industry, but The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Board, continues to have various code task force meetings through the year. On April 2, 2026 they conducted the Fourth meeting for the 2024 Energy Code Task Force. Stay tuned for future updates here but you can always go to the DCA website for the latest happenings in the mean time.
Outside our local IPC jurisdictions here in Georgia, IAPMO is busy in their code review and code prep efforts for the 2030 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code(UPC) and the UMC. Anyone interested can go to ASPE Pipeline article for more information and links to apply to join the committee. https://aspe.org/pipeline/iapmo-seeks-technical-correlating-committee-members-3/
Please reach out and let me know of any other codes, councils, legislative happenings (nationally, state, or local) that you think we should keep a pulse on. I hope to see you at our next ASPE Dinner Meeting as well as the upcoming Clay Shoot, and of course our local Atlanta ASPE Product Show. I pray you all have a wonderful spring into summer, and I hope to see you very soon. Till next time!

Affiliate Liaison's Report
AAron Siegel | JOE WELSH
The Product Show is on May 12th, many engineers have expressed thier excitement about attending this year and we are expecting a strong turnout. The five affiliate manufacturer representatives mentioned last month, have each contacted four to five engineering firms to encourage their attendance.
The event space, Distillery of Modern Art (2197 Invindales Drive Chamblee, GA 30341), is a very cool space and is near the Assembly, where we had the last Product Show.
The Product Show is a great opporuntiy to get detailed information from indusrty experts on the latest innovations impacting the plumbing industry. Continining Educations Credits (CEU's) will also be available during the show, contact Ester Arrascaeta for detials at [email protected]
If you need additional information, please reach out to Aaron and Joe. They are asking all affiliates to call their engineers to inform them about the Product Show and email them the flyer. If you don’t have a copy of the flyer, contact Aaron or Joe, and they can email you one.
We look fforward to seeing there and we really apprrate your support!!!!
Show Starts at 3PM
Dinner starts at 6PM

Hello friends, and followers of ASPE ATL. We are happy that you chose to follow and join us as we strive to improve this important part of our modern civilization.
Welcome to April! Happy Springtime! Can you believe we are already a quarter of the way through 2026! WOW! This year is moving fast, for sure, and what a year it has been so far! Believe it or not, but we are going to be busier still over the coming weeks.
Within the next few weeks, we will have our April Chapter meeting, our Clay Shoot outing, a WOA Crochet event, annual Product Show, and then our May Chapter meeting! That is a lot of action in the next six weeks. I will let others highlight each of these events, while I focus on another important event that will come at the end of this series; election for ASPE ATL 2026-27 Board!
Our chapter has historically been a leader in Region 3 as the largest and one of the most innovative and successful chapters. This is largely because of the vision and passion of the leaders who guide us and encourage our participation. Today, we are over 220 members, following that historical trend and led by a dynamic group of individuals who bond to form this active leadership board. We salute and applaud all that they have done and will continue to do to advance our Chapter and Society.
As engineers, we have learned that entropy is a constant that applies to all systems, and that without new inputs, reduces the system to the lowest, common state. So, it is in our Society as well; a lack of new input (energy = LEADERS) will result in the Society reducing to its lowest common state (un-enthusiastic followers). I know, that is stark, but accurate.
The NEW ENERGY required is YOU! That’s right; you are who we need to stand up and accept the challenge of leadership. Step forward and become a member of this Board and help lead this Chapter into its future. You will not be alone, and you will find new strength in yourself and make new friends and allies throughout the industry. In my 40 years of participation with this fine organization, I have seen what innovative ideas and perseverance can accomplish. Here is where I get to use a quote from a favorite author:
It is the struggle itself that is most important. We must strive to be more than we are. It does not matter that we will not reach our ultimate goal. The effort itself yields its own reward.
—Gene Roddenberry
I hope some will find inspiration to step up to a new challenge and let Julie know if she can add your name to the ballot for a position.
That is all for me for now. As always, I encourage you to actively participate in this representative society we live in and speak up and reach out to your elected representatives whenever possible. You can always reach me at [email protected] if you have any questions or thoughts.
See y’all soon.
Thanks.
