President's Report

Julie Hadfield

Hello everyone,

This month’s meeting will be May 19. We will be back at Mutation for the meeting. We will be having elections at the meeting so please come out and elect the board for next year. We will also be doing the raffle for the trip to the upcoming National Convention in October.

We are talking with the Distillery of Modern Art about moving meetings there next session. To help encourage registering online, we are adding a $5 fee for paying at the door. Registering beforehand helps us plan for the meeting, but if you are unsure if you are going to make it, you are always welcome to come without registering.

We do not want the cost of attending a meeting be the reason you cannot attend. If you need help covering the cost of attending, please reach out to a board member. We will get you a sponsor. There is absolutely no shame or judgement, and it will be handled with discretion. Only the person sponsoring you will be made aware.

We had the clay shoot late April and the product show last week. I want to thank everyone who came out to either of the events. And an extra special thank you to all the sponsors! We couldn’t do it without you.

We will be having our last WOA event of the session on Wednesday. We will be teaching a basic crochet project. If you know anyone interested in attending, have them register.

May is our last meeting of the session before we take a summer break. We will resume meetings again in September. That doesn’t mean the board will be taking a break. We will be having a planning meeting for the next session over the summer, and I will be traveling to a region meeting. If you have any ideas for next session or anything that you want to bring up to the chapters in the region, let me know. If I don’t talk to you beforehand, I hope everyone has a great summer!

As always, don’t hesitate to contact me.

VP Technical Report

Ester Arrascaeta

Happy month of May Atlanta ASPE Members!

I hope you are having a nice time with school season ending and Graduation parties.

We just had our Product Show this month, at the Distillery of Modern Art (beautiful venue!), in Chamblee Georgia. We had a great attendance from Engineers and vendors. We also offered 3 technical sessions during the product show:

1. “Introduction to Gas regulators”, by Jordan Taylor (from ECCO)

2. “Domestic Hot Water Challenges”, by Park Evan (from JMP)

3. “Specifying Emergency Showers and Eyewashes”, by Jonny Pingry (from Guardian)

And we finished this successful Product show with a guided tour through the amazing distillery.

We are thankful to all vendors and reps that supported and participated in this event.

Atlanta ASPE monthly dinner, the last one of the 2025-2026 season, will happen Tuesday May 19th, 2026, at 6 pm. The Technical presentation for that night will be: “Water conservation and plumbing codes impact on water heaters related to applications and sizing”, will be presented by Aaron Siegel from Stiebel Eltron.

The venue for the meeting is:

Mutation Brewing 5825 Roswell Rd NE Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

Also it will Board Election Night, so we hope to see you there.

If you have ideas to share or have something to contribute to the growth and development of the chapter, please reach out to any of us in the board. As Tech VP, I am always looking for interesting and timely technical topics to present for your advancement. If you have something to contribute, or an area you would like to see considered, please let me know.

VP Education Report

Reza Bahador

School is almost out for the summer, and we are still having the most beautiful fall-like weather.

Our Product Show was a great success this year! We had more participation from our vendors and engineers. I personally loved the new location at the Distillery of Modern Art and hope we keep this as our home for events upcoming!

This month we will get to meet Kayla Vallerie, the recipient of the 2026 Atlanta Chapter Student Scholarship, in person at our monthly dinner meeting.

For those of you who are interested in expanding your knowledge of a particular subject or just need to brush up on some skills, take a moment and visit the Society’s Education Opportunities page.

And don’t forget to Read, Learn and Earn those CEU’s at ASPE Education.

If you haven’t already, check out the ASPE Tables App available at the ASPE Bookstore.

We are constantly doing our best to make sure that our members have easy access to all the tools available to them. Please let us know of any suggestions that you may have to make your experience better and keep an eye out as we revise and update information on our ASPE Atlanta Chapter’s site.

VP Legislative Report

FRANK VASTAKIS

Greetings ASPE members and friends! Time is truly flying and times are certainly busy.  We’re here in the thick of May with graduations, preparations for summer breaks and what not, and of course our local Product Show.  Granted I missed the show while out of town on a site visit but proud that my team here at Thompson Ehle Co (Shout out to Joey Roche and Renee Seemer) was able to make it, both to learn something new at the seminars and also continue to build the relationships with our manufacturer’s and their rep firms, who are the lifeline of our chapter.  It’s critical that as engineers we support and give back to our chapter and the affiliates by attending events and getting involved.  On that note, I do want to remind everyone that we’ll be voting on officers at the next dinner meeting. I know that it may be a little late at this moment, but please consider running for an office next year or consider volunteering. Help is always needed when running an organization like ours.  And you will always get back more than you give.

For our PE’s out there, ASPE’s PEWG (Professional Engineers Working Group) has been working for several years to establish a professional exam in plumbing/piping and they need SME’s (Subject-Matter Experts) to continue development of the exam.  If you’re interested, please contact David Dexter(If you’re on ASPE Connect, you know him well 😊) at his info below:

David D. Dexter, F.NSPE, F.ASPE, CPD

Code wise, it’s relatively quiet.  Checkout ASPE’s Pipeline Code section here https://aspe.org/pipeline/category/industry-news/codes-standards/  which has links to some other articles/items. Most of the links are currently for IAPMO/UPC and specifically looking for input on the 2030 editions of their code.

That’s it for now.  I hope to see you at our next ASPE Dinner Meeting.  Till next time!

Affiliate Liaison's Report

 AAron Siegel | JOE WELSH

Hello ASPE members! First of all, a big thanks to everyone that was involved in the planning and the support of the Atlanta ASPE Chapter Product Show at the Distillery of Modern Art.   This is a great event space, and it is good to know we have secured the Distillery of Modern Art for our Chapter Meetings in the fall.  Our last chapter meeting before summer will be held at on May 19th at Mutation Brewery, so please makes sure to attend.  As always, if you bring a new engineer to the chapter dinner is free for any first-time attending engineer and it is a good way to introduce the engineer to the Atlanta ASPE membership.

A few more Thank You’s: We want to thank the various Affiliate members who took the time to reach out to the engineering community this year, requesting and encouraging they attend a monthly meeting especially the younger engineers as we look to introduce them to our local chapter. I feel that we successfully accomplished that goal. And finally, many thanks to our chapter affiliates and manufacturers who sponsored monthly meetings, newsletters, and an event during this past year!

We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful summer.

Best regards,

Aaron Siegel and Joe Welsh

Hello friends, and colleagues.

We have made it to May! Wow! This year is going by quickly. The last 6 weeks have been busy, with Clay Shoot, Product Show and now the May Chapter Meeting to end this activity year. Thank you to all the leaders who have shepherded us this year, and to all who have come out to participate in our monthly meetings and special events. If anyone has missed this activity, then you have short-changed yourself on your membership. Perhaps you can contemplate that over the summer and try again next year.

I do want to take a moment to thank all who participated in our Product Show last week. For the exhibitors, thank you for your support for ASPE ATL and the community of plumbing engineers. You are an important part of what make us successful, as engineers and as a professional Society. Thanks to those who came out to support our exhibitors; your attendance gives you an advantage of knowledge and connection to those whose products you use and specify every day. Thanks to our Board and our Affiliate Liaisons who organized and coordinated this event.

We will have another fellowship and technical offering next week our chapter meeting at Mutation Brewing; we really hope to see many of you there. This will be the last meeting before the summer break, which also means we will be electing the new Board of Directors for the coming season. Most of the candidates are repeating and without competition, but there may be new names, and certainly someone could stand up for a write-in. Please come and vote for your next leadership.

There is an even more important election that day as well; the Georgia State Primary, where we begin the process of electing our State and National leaders. In a representative democracy, this is how your voice is heard. There are many voices that need to be heard, so if you care for this country, with its shining promise and bloody bruises, then make sure you have voted there, before you come to vote here!

The end of this ASPE session will also mark the end of my 41st year as an active member of ASPE ATL. This has been a tremendous journey that I have been blessed by. The names and faces and places that I have met, enjoyed, and survived will be with me always. I am grateful to all who have shared the road with me, who have taught and supported me and who have come to me for council and learning. This ASPE family has touched and supported my own family in so many ways that I cannot even summarize here. I will be retiring before the next session begins.

I hope that I see many of you next week at the chapter meeting and hear from you over the next months. As always, you can reach me at [email protected] to talk about whatever is on your mind. Thanks again to all.

Dennis M. Connelly CPD, FASPE

Ambassador
