President's Report

Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is having a good summer and staying cool. We will be starting meetings back up next month. We will be having our next meeting at Distillery of Modern Art on September 22. Since we will be ordering food ahead of time, it is more important this session to register ahead of time if you can. You can always register at the door if your plans change at the last minute. We will be adding a $5 fee for registering at the door to help encouraging early registration.
We do not want the cost of attending a meeting to be the reason you cannot attend. If you need help covering the cost of attending, please reach out to a board member. We will get you a sponsor. There is absolutely no shame or judgement, and it will be handled with discretion. Only the person sponsoring you will be made aware. If it is a person’s first meeting, the chapter will cover the cost of the meeting. So invite your coworkers who have come to a meeting before.
The Atlanta Board met last month to plan out the upcoming sessions. We have some new faces and ideas. I look forward to a great next session.
We will be sending 8 delegates to Oklahoma City in October for the National Convention. They will be voting on the bylaw changes and in the National Board elections. They are there to represent the chapter and what is best for the members. If you have any opinions on board member candidates or by law changes, let me know. Also, if you are going to be at the National Convention, let me know.
National Society is having a Med Gas Workshop in the Atlanta area on September 17-20. It’s a great opportunity for training in our backyard. The workshop and registration is handled by Society. You can find more information on the ASPE Education website.

Happy month of September ASPE Atlanta Members!
I hope everyone is enjoying the last month of summer, with high temperatures (close to 100s), rains and heavy humidity. Still, we can say that here in Georgia, during summer we can enjoy the outdoor a lot.
School started again and it’s in full swing. Traffic is back to normal around the town, and rush hours are again an everyday thing.
Atlanta ASPE season will start back on September 22nd, and the venue (beautiful venue!) for our 2026-2027 season will be:

Our presenter will be Chris Reininger, from JMP, and the title of the Presentation will be “Heat Timer, and why a mixing valve is needed”. We hope to see you there!
If you have ideas to share or have something to contribute to the growth and development of the chapter, please reach out to any of us on the Board. As Tech VP, I am always looking for interesting and timely technical topics to present for your advancement. If you have something to contribute, or an area you would like to see considered, please let me know.

Welcome to the 4th quarter friends.
I cannot believe how quickly the year is passing. As some of you may know, I have made a change in my career. After 26 years on the design side, I have moved to sales. I have been in my new role for 2 months as of now and am thoroughly enjoying it. I look forward to our first meeting to share all the details. But for now….
I’d like to celebrate our colleagues that passed the 2026 CPD exam! Congratulations!!! Welcome to a very small community within an already very small community.

Lastly, please tell the student in your family to look out for the Annual ASPE Atlanta Chapter Student Scholarship. Our chapter hands out $1,000 each year to an engineering student – let it be yours!

Greetings ASPE members and friends. It’s time again for a fresh new year of ASPE happenings. We have our Dinner meetings cranking back up as well as the 2026 National Convention & Expo. Dinner meetings are sure to be can’t miss with the new venue and technical presentations our esteemed VP-Tech, Ester Arracaeta, is lining up – See details in the newsletter. And as for the convention, it is going to be held from Oct. 8-13 in Oklahoma City, OK. This event attracts thousands of plumbing engineers, designers, contractors, specifiers, and industry leaders from all over. Not to mention, the plumbing products and systems tradeshow is going to be epic. Attend if you can!
As for my Legislative Update, I’ll keep it general and brief. If you haven’t been there lately, here’s a link to our Ga Department of Community Affairs website on Construction Codes - SCAC | Georgia Department of Community Affairs. It’s a great resource for the current codes here in GA, with some links to other info of upcoming meetings. Check it out. Besides having gone to the 2024 series of ICC codes starting this past new year, they are in the flow of some new and current task force meetings. First for the 2024 IECC (International Energy Conservation Code) Task Force, they will meet Thursday September 24, 2026 at 10:00am at the GA DCA offices. And second, The proposed Georgia Amendments to the 2024 International Building Code, the 2024 International Existing Building Code, with Georgia Amendments, and the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code, with Georgia Amendments, will be presented to the Department of Community Affairs Board on Thursday, November 19, 2026 – These will be voted on and become effective January 1, 2027 if approved. There are some other exciting things happening with Iapmo and the UPC with Water Demand Calculator and such – Will touch on that next month.

About the Instructor
Mark Allen has been involved in the medical gas industry since 1978. He started out of university with one of the earliest certification firms when “certification” of medical gas systems was a concept yet to be widely accepted. He transitioned to the manufacturing sector in 1985 and since then has been involved in virtually all aspects of medical gas work, including testing and verification, regulatory advocacy, product development, marketing, and education.
Mark is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems and has been involved with that Committee since the 1987 edition of NFPA 99. He is also an active member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Technical Committee on Medical Gas and Vacuum Systems, working on the CSA Z7396-1 standard, and also is involved with the ISO TC121/SC6 committee dealing with Anesthetic and Respiratory devices, including medical gases, and the ISO 7396 series of standards.

Affiliate Liaison's Report
Hello, ASPE Members!
I am pleased to be serving another term on the Atlanta ASPE Chapter Board as the Affiliate Liaison, and I would also like to welcome Andy Crimmins and Mark Azarraga as they join the Board.
Andy brings a wealth of manufacturing industry knowledge and strong relationships to the Chapter, and we are excited to have him serving on the Board. Mark brings many years of experience in the engineering and design of commercial plumbing systems, and his expertise will be a valuable addition to the Board and the Atlanta ASPE Chapter.
Our new meeting location at the Distillery of Modern Art is a great venue, and we encourage everyone to join us for our monthly meetings and support the Chapter. Our first meeting of the fall season will be held on September 22.
We will also continue our program of covering the cost of dinner for all new engineers attending an Atlanta ASPE Chapter meeting for the first time, so please bring a colleague and introduce them to the Chapter!
